How the process works, and terms and conditions

Here is a little about what to expect when you entrust a project to me... if you have any other questions please get in touch.

When you discuss a bespoke painting project with me, I will ask you about the themes and mood you'd like it to include, and about the person, pet or landscape it's depicting. The more I can know about what you want the painting to be about, the better it will turn out. We can also talk about size, framing and where it will go, so that it suits your needs.

I will be able to give you an idea of timing and costs once we've discussed the project. I work in oils, on canvas, and the painting process usually takes about 3-4 weeks as I need to let the oil paint set between sessions. The picture will then need 2-3 weeks drying time if it's going in the post to you. Please note that I usually have a waiting list for bespoke paintings, especially leading up to Christmas, so you may need to plan ahead with your order.

Prices depend on the size and time taken, but as a general rule a bespoke painting will cost between £200 and £550.

I usually work from photos, but the picture must be high quality, not blurred, and well lit. If possible, I will take the reference photos myself. If not, I can give you some ideas and examples for you to take them after we've had a chat.

All original paintings will be signed by me, Sarah Cripps, and accompanied by a note to authenticate your purchase.

When you buy an original painting, you will own the physical painting but I will retain the copyright of the digital image. I will be able to use the digital image for prints, greetings cards, publicity, advertising, merchandise etc.

When you commission a bespoke painting, I will ask for a deposit to cover materials and initial planning work. The balance of the cost will be payable when the painting is finished. If you do not like the painting when it is finished, you do not have to purchase it but I will offer it for sale elsewhere. If and when it sells I will refund your deposit. If you ask me to paint from a photograph, you are confirming that you own the copyright of that image or that you have permission to use it for that purpose. I usually post photos of works in progress on social media - if you do not want this to happen for your commission, for example if it is a surprise gift for someone, please let me know.

Delivery costs are not included in the price unless specifically stated. If you would like a quote for delivery costs before deciding whether to purchase, please let me know. Items are usually sent by a ‘tracked and signed for’ service and I make every effort to avoid any issues with delivery. I cannot be held responsible or liable for any damage, misplacement, delay or loss caused in transit but I will try to help track the package and I will give you the information you need to seek compensation from the courier.

Prints and cards will be produced from scans or photographs of my work and, although I will reproduce the image quality to the best of my ability, they are bought on a ‘sold as seen’ basis.

When you buy any artwork or merchandise from me, I will add you to my mailing list for my monthly email newsletter. You can stop receiving this at any time by contacting me or by clicking the unsubscribe link on the newsletter.

I want you to enjoy your artwork! If you need any help or advice following your purchase, or if you have any problem or comments, please contact me and I will help as much as I can.
